CANTON — Police are seeking the public’s assistance in helping to identify suspects involved in a violent armed robbery here two weeks ago that resulted in one person being shot in the head.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Oct. 18 at 811 Otto St.

Police Chief Otha Brown said two Hispanic males, identified as 25-year-old Antonio De la Cruz and 22-year-old Rigoberta Solana, were sitting on their porch when they were approached by un unknown black male and robbed at gunpoint.

Brown said at first police were told there were two suspects, but then it was changed to one suspect, so at this point it’s a wide-open investigation.

The chief said De la Cruz was shot in the head and Solana was beaten over the head with the pistol. Family members had gone to a nearby store and returned to find the two men hunched over on the porch, Brown said.

De la Cruz was taken to Merit Health Madison and later transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center where he remains while in recovery, the chief reported.

It is unknown how much money was taken, but Brown said the house was ransacked as well.

The chief added there are currently no leads, but they did recover a .22 caliber shell that has been sent to the state crime lab.
