RIDGELAND - C-Spire Wireless hopes to build a new cell tower behind Ann Smith Elementary on Pear Orchard Boulevard to help with data capacity issues its users have been experiencing in the area.

Ridgeland Director of Community Development Alan Hart said Monday the rezoning sign posted in front of the school is to let people know about the tower, which still must be approved at next week's board of aldermen meeting before construction can begin.

"They had a public hearing on the Thursday before last," Hart said. "They have coverage in the area, but there was some sort of data capacity issue because of high levels of use in the area."

The board of aldermen is set to meet next Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m.
