RIDGELAND —The board of aldermen approved a special event permit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society bike ride to be held on Oct. 7-8 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. at last week’s board meeting. The 75-mile route starts at 200 Township Place. They expect 150 participants.

NMSS staff and volunteers will be in charge of clean-up. This event will generate no overtime for Ridgeland Police Department, officials said.

In other board news:

• Approved a special event permit for Christ Covenant School’s Fall Into Fun event on October 12 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the rear of the Christ Covenant campus. They estimate about 600 people to show up and will be responsible for onsite cleanup and parking. The event will generate no overtime for RPD though on duty shifts will perform periodic check ins.

•  Approved a budget amendment transferring $1,581.75 from Sale of Equipment to Capital Machinery Equipment. The money comes form the sale of a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria for $240.50, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala for $277.50 and a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria for  $1,063.75 on GovDeals.com. These vehicles were previously declared surplus property.

•  Approved a “holder of the record agreement” between the Ridgeland Police Department and Holmes Community College at the request of Mississippi Justice Information Center.

• Declared a Glock 23, .40 caliber pistol surplus property to allow Lieutenant Norman Sipp be allowed to purchase his service weapon upon his retirement.

• Approved a contract change order for the Highland Colony Parkway-Old Agency Parkway Traffic Signal project with B7B Electrical and Utility Contractor, Inc. extending the current contract time thirty days to October 31, 2017. This extension requires CSpire’s fiber optic lines to be complete. CSpire’s current target date is September 15.

• Approve a bid award to Skyline Steel for purchasing steel sheet pilling for the Old Agency Ditch Project. A memo from Public Works Director Mike McCollum said that Skyline submitted a bid of $59,038.86, the lowest bid. This action includes a $105,000 increase the FY2018 Drainage Improvements Budget.

•    Approved the appointment of Rachel Bradley to the Keep Ridgeland Beautiful Committee by Ward 1 Alderman Kevin Holder.

•   Made a budget amendment $31,097.00 for mosquito control. The money came from $12,697 from operating supplies and $18,400 from street materials.

•  Made a budget amendment taking $96,723 from the East Lake Harbour Overlay Fund Balance and put $96,623 in Engineering and $100 in Legal for the FY2017.

•  Approved a budget amendment increasing the East Lake Harbour Overlay Fund Balance to the tune of $97,171 and decreasing $100 from Engineering and $448 from Other Costs for FY2018.

•   Received the August 2017 privilege license report.

•  Extended the current contract with Terry Services for HVAC Maintenance for FY2018.

•  Appointed Michelle Wallace to court clerk at grade M6 step 12.

•  Unanimously approved the claims docket.
