Friends and family members are preparing to host a charity golf tournament at the Canton Country Club that will feature a variety of prizes and raise money for a scholarship fund and charities.

The Stuart Smith Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament, dubbed Stuapalooza, is a now yearly event that commemorates the life of Stuart Smith, a Canton Academy graduate that took his own life in November of 2015.

The tournament will feature hole-in-one prizes for four pre-determined holes, a new driver for every member of the winning team and other prizes throughout the day.

Organizers have confirmed one hole-in-one prize includes a vehicle provided by Bob Boyte Honda.

The event includes live music in the evening and food during the day. There will be both morning and afternoon slots available for teams to play.

The goal of the Stuart Smith Memorial Scholarship is to benefit other Madison County students who want to attend Mississippi State University and The American Society for Suicide Prevention.

Smith is remembered for his love of the outdoors, which included hunting, fishing and golf and had a passion for music.

He graduated from Canton Academy where he played baseball and football and took great pride in being voted “Mr. C.A.” by his fellow students. He went on to Mississippi State University.

His friends and family unanimously say that they remembered his infectious smile and vibrant personality.

The event is October 7. For more information visit the Stuart Smith Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament page on Facebook or call 601-859-1722 and ask for the pro shop.
