Developers received approval from the Madison County Board of Supervisors on Monday to build a new indoor gun range and retail store on Mississippi 22 west of Pleasant Grove Church.

According to business owner C.E. “Corky” Saik, the facility will be 11,000 square feet and include 4,000 feet of retail space.

“We will sell guns, have limited ammunition mainly for the range,” Saik told supervisors.

Saik said the shooting range is patterned after a successful indoor range in Pensacola, Fla.

“The range facility gives shooters and sportsman a ‘controlled/safe’ place to shoot and will be designed to attract family memberships,” a business overview on the site plan reads.

Deacon James Thompson Sr. of Pleasant Grove Church told supervisors their only concern at the church was the noise, given the facility will be located less than 500 yards from them.

Saik said they won’t have to worry about the noise at all.

“We’re onboard with him as long as he lives up to his part,” Thompson said.

Sheriff Randy Tucker said he met with Saik and thinks the range will be a great addition to the area and the county law enforcement.

“There’s active deer hunting now (on that land), so it’s safer than what’s going on there now,” Tucker said. “He has assured us about the noise. They won’t even be able to hear it at the church.”
