A Jackson man was picked up by law enforcement in Grenada in connection with a shooting of two people at a Ridgeland assisted living home on the Highland Colony Parkway.

Investigators were able to obtain from information supplied by the two victims of the shooting the identity of the shooting suspect as Sam Kenta Johnson, 39, of Jackson. He was stopped in Grenada off I-55. Ridgeland Police say preliminary information received in the investigation provided evidence to allow investigators to secure an arrest warrant for Johnson charging him with two counts of aggravated assault.

Early Thursday morning, the Ridgeland Police Department responded to a call at Highland Home assisted living and long term rehabilitation home located at 638 Highland Colony Parkway at approximately 6:20 a.m. in response to a report of a subject being shot at this location.

Upon officers’ arrival, they located the victim who was identified as a 32 year old female, an employee of the care facility, completing her overnight shift. Additionally, the responding officers located a second victim who had also sustained multiple gunshot wounds. This second victim, a 35 year old male, was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of the facility.

Authorities say the male victim was later determined to be the present boyfriend of the female victim.  Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of the injuries are unknown at this time. They are undergoing surgery. Investigators on the scene were able to obtain information from the two victims prior to being transported to aid in the investigation.

It was discovered a subject named Sam had shot the two victims and fled the scene in a white vehicle. Other staff members reported to the responding officers that the female victim heard an argument outside the south doors of the facility and upon investigating, she saw her current boyfriend  and her ex-boyfriend in a confrontation in the parking lot of the facility.  As the female victim was exiting the facility to confront the people outside, gunshots were fired. The female victim retreated back inside and secured the doors to the facility. The male victim ran on foot attempting to get back to his vehicle.  The shooting suspect fled in a white vehicle.

Investigators with RPD reached out to other law enforcement agencies across the state and were able to locate Johnson as he traveled in I-55 near Grenada shortly after 10:30 a.m. where he was taken into custody without incident.

Johnson was transported to the Grenada Police Department where local investigators will pick him up and transport back to Ridgeland PD. Johnson will be processed and held at Madison County Detention Center pending an initial appearance before a municipal court judge.  No Bond has been set at this time.

No known motive has been revealed for the shooting and the history between Johnson and the female victim is unknown at this time as investigators are still gathering additional information.  Anyone with information is requested to contact the Ridgeland Police Department at 601-856-2121.
