BY DUNCAN DENT
Wednesday, November 27, 2019 12:00 PM
RIDGELAND — Aldermen approved $30,000 in grant monies from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for flashlights and traffic light cameras.
Police Lt. Tony Wilridge presented the grant to the board last week. The grant provides funds to purchase an ALPR System related to the city’s traffic light camera system and for new flashlights.
Chief John Neal said after the item was unanimously approved on the consent agenda last Tuesday evening that this would replace flashlights force-wide.
In other RPD action, aldermen:
• Approved a special event permit for Soulshine Pizza’s Got Your Six event. The event is a benefit for Sheriff's Department Deputy Brad Sullivan wounded in a shootout this summer. They expect between 250 and 300 participants.
