RIDGELAND — The Township at Colony Park continues to chug closer to a hospitality complex that will include two Marriott brand hotels, an event hall and room to continue to develop with the approval of site plans for one of the hotels last Tuesday evening.

The item was approved unanimously 6-0 with Ward 2 Alderman Chuck Gautier recusing himself because he works with Kerioth, the developer of The Township.

Aldermen only had one question for Kerioth President Clint Herring: When will they get started?

“We want to get started on this immediately,” Herring said.

Mayor Gene F. McGee asked if the plan presented had changed form the ones that were seen in December.

Community Development Director Alan Hart said that they hadn’t, though he did warn that they had not received Architectural Review Board approval, because they failed to make a quorum at their last meeting.

“The ARB was not able to meet on this, but because you had already seen the plans and in the spirit of moving forward I wanted to present these to you tonight,” Hart said.

Developers initially hoped to start this project as early as April or May and started parking, underground and infrastructure work about a year ago.

The approved Marriott AC Hotel will be located at 221 Township Avenue. Addresses for the other proposed buildings include the Township Civic Building and Meeting Hall at 161 Southlake Avenue and the Marriott Autograph Hotel at 220 Township Avenue. Future plans for the development include a restaurant.
