Catholic Charities is preparing to start a new season of licensing classes for foster parents.

“There is a great need for foster parents in the area,” Shamir Lee said. “I think there are 6,000 children in foster care in the state and we, and other agencies, are always looking for qualified households.”

Children range from the ages of zero to 18, but  Lee says that most of the kids range form eight to 18. Candidates must be between 21 and 65 and be able to pass a state, federal and local background checks.
