MADISON – Senior Leah Blevins will advance to the national competition in Lincoln, Neb., this summer after receiving a Superior Award last week for a solo musical theater piece at the state theater competition.

Blevins was one of several St. Joe students honored at the Mississippi Thespian Conference in Tupelo Feb. 23-24.

“We are so proud of Leah, her fine work and great award she received,” Principal Dena Kinsey said. “These awards and St. Joe’s performance at the conference highlights just how strong our Fine Arts program is at St. Joe.”

Besides winning a Superior Award, Blevins also was inducted into the Thespian Hall of Fame for her outstanding presence in theater and her school. Other St. Joe students also were honored at the conference and received the following awards:

Excellent awards: Alice McPhail and Mary Grace Stewart, duet acting; Claire Conn and Anna Rose Myrick, duet acting; Leila De Gruy, monologue; Olivia Patterson, solo musical theatre; and Katie Joseph, Jamarcus Sutton, Julian Brown and Sam Indest, group acting.

Good awards: Linda Martinez and Barri Teeter, duet musical theatre; Emma Dotson and Alexia Brown, duet acting; Jax Rasmussen, technical theatre-costume design; and Larissa Armour, solo musical theater.

“St. Joe has a great group of talented theater students who always give it their best in all that they do,” said Leslie Harkins, the school’s theater teacher.

“These awards show how strong and how hard our students work. With our spring musical ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ about a month away, and with many of these students working on the production, I can’t wait to see what they do next.
