MADISON - Haylee Morse racked up 10 strikeouts on her way to a 19th win and Madison Central surged into the MHSAA 6A Championship with a 4-0 win over Northwest Rankin in prep softball action Monday.

With a packed house on hand on the Madison Central campus, the Lady Jags followed a series opening 12-2 Saturday win with a solid performance in all four phases of the game.

The Lady Jags (25-5) got contributions at the plate from Alexia Harmon, who went 3-for-3, and Kristin Qualls, who had two hits including a solo home run that put MC ahead 3-0 in the third inning.

"We've worked so hard to get here," an elated Qualls said after the game. "It was a long pre-season, but we put in the work we needed to put in to be in this position."

It was the second series sweep in a row for MC, which also swept DeSoto Central in the third round with 17-4 and 2-1 wins last week.

Coach Kayla Watkins said she's just proud her team is headed back to the championship round.

"It is definitely exciting to get back after losing in the state title series last year," she said.

This marks the fifth consecutive year Madison Central has reached the final. The Lady Jaguar team finished runner-up last year to South Champion Oak Grove, but won three championships from 2010-2012.

They will face Harrison Central in the first of a best-of-three series at Freedom Ridge Park at 7:30 p.m.
