Texan Anna Schultz led wire-to-wire, finishing in style with a 71 that included a hole-in-one, Thursday to claim the 2018 Women’s Southern Golf Association Senior Championship this week. It was 11 years between titles for Schultz, who also won the event in 2006 and 2007.

Schultz opened play with a 78, followed it up with a 76 in less than desirable conditions Wednesday and then closed out with a 3-day total of 225, which was 9 shots clear of her closest challenger.

Schultz, who missed most of 2017 with an injury, was excited about her victory and said “it is great to be back out there knowing I can compete at this level again.” The Heath, Texas resident actually missed the Texas Senior Championship to attend the WSGA event, which was hosted at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, MS.

The 3-time champion aced the #4 Par 3 and said she had to try to “calm down after this exciting hole” and get back to business. Her 71 round included a 38 on the front side and an impressive 33 on the back.

Florida golf Taffy Brower, a former WSGA Amateur and Senior Champion, claimed her 4th consecutive Super Senior title at Reunion.

Taking runner-up honors was Mimi Hoffman of Springfield, VA with a score of 234. Also placing in the Championship Flight were Susan West of Tuscaloosa, AL with a 237 and then Nancy Beck of Dallas, TX with a 238.

Sissy Kern of Mississippi won the Super Senior award for the Flights Division, which included the second through sixth flights. These flights played a shorter yardage than the top two flights in the Champion Division.

“Host Club Chairman Sheila Haynes and the staff of Reunion Golf and Country Club did an awesome job with this year’s tournament,” said WSGA President Janie Carpenter. “We would also like to thank General Manager Casey Smith, PGA Head Professional Tim Basel and Golf Course Superintendent Charley Crell and their staffs for all their efforts in making this a great championship.”
