Jane Clover Alexander has been named editor of Madison County Magazine, a monthly supplement to the Madison County Journal.
A Jackson native, Alexander is the former editor of Mississippi Magazine and most recently was editor and co-founder of South magazine.
Alexander, a graduate of Millsaps College, received a master of arts in journalism from the University of Mississippi.
"I am thrilled to be working with Madison County magazine," Alexander said. "It's already off to such a great start and I am excited about the opportunity to help it grow and prosper.
"The people of Madison County have a lot to celebrate," she continued. "The area is thriving, but it hasn't lost its charm or what makes it special. That balance of progress and tradition is something to be valued."
James E. Prince III, publisher of the Journal and president of Prince Newspaper Holdings, Inc., said, "Jane brings a burst of talent, innovation and creativity that readers will recognize immediately. Her phenomenal cultural insight, vast wealth of experience and knowledge of the industry is unmatched. She's a perfect fit for Madison County."
Alexander said there are so many great stories to tell, about people, places and events.
"We have a tremendous team and it's great to work with them. I want to hear from our readers, to make sure we don't miss a moment."
Alexander joined the staff of Mississippi Magazine in 1996. During her tenure as editor, circulation increased, advertising stabilized and Alexander managed to produce a publication filled with interesting articles and attractive photography that gained a loyal following.
She also taught journalism at Mississippi College, overseeing the award-winning campus newspaper and beginning a recognized internship program. Several of Alexander's students achieved outstanding goals: editorship of weekly newspapers, staff writers at daily newspapers, reporting for the Associated Press and producing at CNN.
Alexander has also worked for Communication Arts, Millsaps College, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the Mississippi Easter Seal Society (now the Mississippi Society for Disabilities).
She is married to Brent Alexander, a senior public policy advisor at Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell and Berkowitz.
They live in Jackson and are the parents of twin 15-month-old daughters Elizabeth Chandler and Emily Clare. The family attends St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson.
