7/30/2009 5:00:00 AM Governor to highlight today's political speeches at Fair
Gov. Haley Barbour will highlight the list of state officials slated to speak at the Neshoba County Fair today, with political speaking from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the famed pavilion stage on Founders Square.
Attendance is up this year, Fair Association President Kenneth Breland said, noting that 16,000 tickets were sold Friday through Sunday.
That does not include children under the age of 10, Fair officials said.
Following Wednesday's round of political speaking, Barbour (scheduled at 10:40 a.m.) will round out a group that on Thursday includes State Treasure Tate Reeves at 10:10 a.m., and Secretary of State Delbert Hoseman at 10:20 a.m.
The Fair is scheduled to close Friday after large crowd turned out for Saturday's arts and crafts show on Founders Square as well as to watch Felipe Bastos of Birmingham, Ala., capture the 30th annual Heart O'Dixie Triathlon.
Beginning at 2 p.m. today and 1:30 p.m. tomorrow there will be Harness & running horse races as well as an assortment of music throughout the day.
Thursday night beginning at 8 p.m. The Neal McCoy Show will be at the Grandstand with Coop D' Belle playing at Founders Square beginning at 9:30 p.m. US will play at the Grandstand beginning at 11 p.m.
The Vernon Brothers will make a second appearance at the Fair on Friday beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the grandstand.
The Little Big Town Show is set for 8 p.m. at the grandstand while Chris Gil and the Soul Shakers will provide dance music at the pavilion at 9:30 p.m. Weather permitting, a fireworks show will follow Little Big Town to close out the Fair.
