Jackson Academy senior offensive lineman Daniel Adams said he has enjoyed playing football for JA and wants to start down a path toward law enforcement.

Adams began playing football for JA in the fourth grade and has mainly played as an offensive lineman throughout his years as a player and enjoys the importance of the position.

“My favorite part of playing for JA, in general, is the people here,” Adams said. “We have the best coaching staff around and a group full of guys who are willing to work hard every day.”

Adams will graduate from JA in May, and while he is not sure what college he will attend, he wants to go to Mississippi State University and pursue a career in law enforcement. He is unsure what he will major in and will not be continuing football.

Adams said his favorite part of being a senior this season w setting an example for the younger players.

“It’s great playing with the younger guys and coaching them,” he said. “Taking the field every game with my teammates is always a blast.”

Outside of school and football, Adams works out for several hours each day and enjoys anything that involves music and watching wrestling.

His favorites:

• Hobby: Lifting weights

• Food: Sonic cheeseburger

• Vacation spot: Destin, Florida

• Movie: “Central Intelligence”

“We had a great season, and it was awesome to be a leader for the younger guys,” Adams said. “I wish them well next season.”

Jackson Academy Head Coach Lance Pogue said Adams has a good attitude that rubs off on everyone.

“Daniel is a three-year starter, and he’s a super leader,” Pogue said. “He’s a great, fun-loving kid with excellent leadership skills. His attitude has rubbed off on all of us, and the whole team has great respect for him.”

Pogue said the Raiders finished 8-4 after losing to Madison-Ridgeland Academy in the semifinal playoff game last week.

“Last year, we were in the finals, and we were in the semifinals this year,” Pogue said. “We’re making progress. We’re trying to get back to a championship standard, and Daniel has been a key part of that. He will give his heart and soul for the team, and that’s the kind of kid we should all appreciate in this day and time.”

Pogue said the team’s off-season weightlifting and conditioning begin immediately, and spring practices will follow.

“We’ve established some basics for success, and now we have to find a way to take the next step,” Pogue said. “We have to keep working and fighting each day to get better. Each player should try their best and strive, just like Daniel. He’s a great kid, and he’s got an unlimited future.”
