Baseball and softball weekly roundup
Local baseball and softball teams had a strong week, with multiple teams traveling for tournaments during the spring break week for most schools.
Madison Central baseball fell 9-1 to St. Paul’s (AL) and opened region play with a 5-2 home win over Starkville during the past week to move to 10-3 on the season. The Jaguars will travel to Starkville on Friday and host Ridgeland on Saturday.
Madison Central softball went 1-2-1 in four games in Gulfport over the spring break week, beating Puckett 11-7, tying Picayune 6-6, and falling to St. Benedict (TN) 2-0 and North Pike 10-8. The Lady Jaguars opened region play with a 4-1 road win over Tupelo as well on Tuesday. Madison Central is now 7-4-1 on the season and will round out the week with a home game against Hernando on Thursday.
Germantown baseball went 1-2 over the spring break week, beating Mooreville 4-0 and falling 12-11 to George County and 3-0 to East Union. The Mavericks also picked up a 5-4 win over Clinton to open region play on Tuesday. Germantown is now 8-8 on the season and will travel to take on Clinton on Friday and host Terry on Saturday.
Germantown softball went 1-1 in Meridian over the spring break week, beating Neshoba Central 7-6 and falling 2-0 to Harrison Central, along with picking up an 8-7 win over Clinton in their region opener. The Lady Mavericks are now 10-5 and are scheduled to host Tupelo on Thursday and travel to Starkville on Saturday.
Ridgeland baseball was off last week for spring break, but beat Vicksburg 18-0 on Tuesday in their region opener to move to 4-5 on the season. The Titans will travel to Vicksburg on Friday and Madison Central on Saturday.
Canton baseball was off last week for spring break, but picked up a 16-1 region win over Holmes County Central to move to 5-1 on the season. The Tigers will host Greenville on Thursday to round out the week.
After having to cancel the early part of their season due to roster numbers because of their basketball state tournament run, Canton softball opened their season with a 4-0 win over Callaway on Monday. The Lady Tigers will round out the week with their region opener against Yazoo City on Thursday at home.
St. Andrew’s baseball wrapped up their spring break road trip last week with a 14-3 win over McGill-Toolen (AL) and picked up a 5-0 road win over St. Joseph on Tuesday, moving to 9-5 on the season. The Saints will travel to Loyd Star on Thursday, host Bogue Chitto on Friday, and host French Camp Academy on Saturday to round out the week.
St. Andrew’s softball fell 18-0 and 12-0 to Puckett in a doubleheader last week, moving to 3-7 on the season. The Lady Saints will play two road games against Pelahatchie on Thursday and host Murrah on Friday.
MRA baseball wrapped up their trip to Biloxi over the spring break week with an 8-3 win over East Union, followed by a 3-1 road loss to South Jones on Tuesday. The Patriots now sit at 9-7 on the season and will host Warren Central on Thursday.
St. Joseph baseball won 14-1 over Loyd Star on Monday and fell 5-0 to St. Andrew’s on Tuesday this week, moving to 9-4 on the season. The Bruins will host Enterprise on Saturday.
Jackson Prep baseball finished their spring break trip to Biloxi with a 7-0 win over South Panola, before falling to 11-2 at home against Hartfield Academy on Tuesday. The Patriots are now 11-4-1 on the season and will travel to Canton Academy on Thursday and Kosciusko on Friday.
Jackson Academy baseball completed their spring break trip to Biloxi with two wins, 11-3 over Northpoint Christian and 8-7 over Tishomingo County, followed by a 4-0 win over Copiah Academy on Tuesday. The Raiders are now 12-2 on the season and will travel to Manchester Academy on Friday.
Tri-County Academy baseball picked up three wins over the last week, beating Purvis 9-3, Bogue Chitto 6-0, and Copiah Academy 12-1. The Rebels are now 12-3 and will travel to Copiah Academy on Thursday and Canton Academy on Saturday.
Canton Academy wrapped up their spring break trip to Biloxi with a 12-11 loss to St. Martin and a 9-1 win over Hatley, followed by a 25-7 loss to Riverfield Academy on Monday. The Panthers are now 5-10 on the season and will round out the week by hosting Jackson Prep on Thursday and Tri-County on Saturday.
