Members of the River of Pearls Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, celebrated on the DAR National Day of Service by cleaning the Blue Star Mother’s Monument in Madison’s Strawberry Patch Park.

The chapter wishes to make the Blue Star Mother's Monument a beautiful place where families of those in the military can pause and reflect on their loved ones.

The Blue Star was designed in 1917 by World War I Army Capt. Robert L. Queisser of Ohio who had two sons serving on the front line.

His banner quickly became the unofficial symbol for parents with a child in active military service. For over 90 years, family have proudly displayed the Blue Star to represent the bravery, patriotism and love their sons and daughters have as members of the Armed Forces of America.

Members of the River of Pearls Chapter, the newest chapter in the state, plan to continue their work in beautifying the memorial in the park.

The DAR National Day of Service gives members across the United States a chance to join in a nationwide effort to illustrate the National Society's collective commitment to America and to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Society on October 11, 1890.
