Drunk Jackson woman drives wrong way on I-55
GLUCKSTADT — A Jackson woman was arrested here for drunk driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-55 last week.
The woman, Thadiesha Funchess, 26, was arrested and charged with careless driving, no vehicle insurance, and DUI, according to Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale.
“Thanks to the quick response by Gluckstadt Police officers, an irresponsible and dangerous driver was taken off the roadway, unable to cause any more danger or harm,” Hale said. “Good job officers.”
Hale noted the arrest occurred on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Gluckstadt Police were dispatched at about 3:45 p.m. last Thursday to I-55 and reports of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane near the Sowell Road exit.
Police stopped the vehicle after the driver eventually made it back to the correct side of the interstate near the Gluckstadt Road bridge.
Hale said that the driver had hit another vehicle in Canton before being stopped on the interstate.
Officers determined that the woman appeared to be intoxicated, Hale said.
