Fireworks illegal to shoot off in Madison
Law enforcement authorities say they will be on the lookout for drunk drivers and illegal fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor said MPD officers will be out in force on New Year’s Eve.
“The Madison Police Department will have additional officers out on New Year's Eve for the purpose of responding to noise complaints and assigned to proactive patrols to keep our roadways clear of impaired drivers,” Taylor said.
Both the cities of Madison and Ridgeland have an ordinance that prohibits the sale, manufacture, and discharge of fireworks within city limits.
Fireworks are allowed in Gluckstadt but are limited to certain dates and times.
“The holidays are approaching fast, and those wanting to celebrate, please do so responsibly,” a statement from GPD said.
On New Year’s Eve, those in Gluckstadt can set off personal fireworks starting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and ending at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
GPD officials also recommend designating a responsible adult to oversee the fireworks and having a bucket of water to put out fires or soak duds.
There are no ordinances preventing the use of fireworks in Canton, Flora, or unincorporated Madison County.
