With the Fourth of July right around the corner, multiple cities in Madison County are prepping to celebrate the nation’s birth with family-friendly events filled with food, activities, and fireworks.

Here are upcoming July 4 events in Madison County:

Madison

The City of Madison is holding their annual fireworks show this year on Sunday, July 3. Amy Cummins, event coordinator for the City of Madison, said food trucks will be on site at 6 p.m, by the soccer fields and the softball and baseball complex.

“This is the best fireworks show in Madison County,” Cummins said. “It’s going to be a good show with a family friendly atmosphere, good food, and great viewing spots.”

The fireworks start at 9 p.m., and the food trucks offer hot dogs, burgers, pizza, and sno cones. Cummins said vendors will also sell light-up necklaces and novelty items.

“The best viewing area is from Liberty Park, but other options are the Walmart and Lowe’s parking lots,” Cummins said. “Rosa Scott’s parking lot will be closed to parking and traffic.”

The Madison Police Department will be on site patrolling parking.

Ridgeland

The City of Ridgeland is holding their annual America Balloon Glow this year on Friday, July 1.

Enjoy an evening of patriotism and celebration starting at 6 p.m. at Northpark Mall in Ridgeland.  The Mississippi Championship Balloon Fest will inflate balloons and light up the night.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Trix, starting at 5 p.m., and the Luckenbach Willie Nelson Tribute Band, performs at 6:30 p.m.

The balloon glow starts at 7:30 p.m. through 8 p.m., followed by Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster and patriotic music by Temperance Babcock.  Fireworks are scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

There will also be food vendors, music, and a kids’ corner. For more information, contact the City of Ridgeland’s Recreation and Parks Department Facebook page: @RidgelandRecreationandparks.

Wendy Bourdin, special events coordinator for the City of Ridgeland, said the event is free, and vendor’s prices vary.

“Besides the food vendors and Kid’s Zone, the event is free,” Bourdin said. “It is geared toward families, and not many July 4 events have the balloons that glow, along with music and kid activities, food, and fireworks. It’s a fun time. Bring your lawn chair, come have a seat, and enjoy the festivities.”

Canton

The City of Canton is hosting Mississippi’s Championship Hot Air Balloon Fest from Thursday, June 30 until Sunday, July 3.

Stacy Hodges, office manager for Canton Tourism, said the festivities begin with a launch party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Courthouse Square.
