GLUCKSTADT – The city taking accepting applications for a police chief.

So for the city has received 15 resumes since they accepting applications for the position earlier this month, said Mayor Walter Morrison.

“Our city clerk informed me that two more resumes were dropped off at City Hall on Tuesday,” Morrison said. “I’ve been very pleased with the degree of interest.”

Morrison said the city will accept resumes until the next Board of Alderman meeting on Dec. 7, when the board will decide whether to continue accepting resumes or extend the deadline and receive more.

Morrison said that if the board decides at the next meeting to stop accepting resumes, they will begin to interview candidates and hire a police chief in a process similar to how they hired a city clerk earlier this year.

“Once we hire a police chief, he will be tasked with building out the police department,” Morrison said. “He will have input hiring an assistant chief, buying all the necessary equipment, and hiring police officers. We’ve received a lot of resumes, and I am very encouraged by the amount of interest.”

According to the city, the police chief will be a full-time permanent position with Gluckstadt, with Morrison being the police chief’s immediate supervisor. The salary is competitive, city officials said. The police chief will be in charge of Gluckstadt law enforcement and will work independently to ensure laws are enforced, crime is prevented and citizens’ lives and property are protected.

Interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter, and acceptable law enforcement certifications by Dec. 7.

Applications may be mailed to the attention of Mayor Walter Morrison or City Clerk Lindsay Kellum at P.O. Box 2210, Madison, MS 39130, or emailed to lindsay.kellum@gluckstadt.net. Applications can also be hand-delivered to City Hall at 343 Distribution Drive.
