‘I Voted’ sticker contest underway
The Madison County Republican Party hopes to expand its “I Voted” sticker competition in its second year, Vice-Chairman Colleen Wise said.
“Chairman Aaron Rice and the Madison County Republican Executive Committee are excited to continue the contest and engage our young residents of Madison County,” Wise said.
The contest began last year by then-chairman Renee Lambert, Wise said. Wise said last year’s sticker, designed by Cohen Mader, was well-received at the polls.
“I was a poll worker and the people loved it so much,” Wise said.
The competition started on Saturday, June 15. The deadline to submit a design is Friday, August 16, at 5 p.m.
The contest is open to all fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students of Madison County in public, private, or homeschool. The winning design will be used as the official “I Voted” sticker in the 2024 general election.
Wise said these grades were selected because most curriculums have students study the Constitution of the United States in eighth grade.
“We think it is a great way to engage the youngsters as they learn a little bit about the process of voting,” Wise said.
The sticker will be selected by a panel of judges. Last year’s panel included the local mayors and State Sen. Walter Michel. Wise said she is working on confirming this year’s panel.
Selected judges will pick the top three winners. Judging will be based on uniqueness, design, artistry and capturing the Madison County culture, Wise said. The panel of judges will receive only the artwork and no personal information about the contestants. First place will receive $100, Second place will receive $50 and third place will receive $25.
“And bragging rights,” Wise said.
The inaugural "I Voted" sticker contest winner in 2023 was Cohen Mader, second place was Margaret LaCour and third place was Riley Beckham.
“The kids were so proud and they should be,” Wise said. “They did an awesome job.”
The stickers will again be printed by Mahaffey's Quality Printing.
Participants must agree to the contest official rules and submit their designs by completing an “I Voted” sticker design entry form. All submissions must be sent to IVOTEDCONTEST@gmail.com by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024. Wise said any questions may be submitted through this email address.
