CANTON — A sign language interpreter known for his COVID-19 updates with Gov. Tate Reeves was arrested and charged with domestic violence by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies.

Gregory W. Goldman, 52, was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence on Sunday, Nov. 22 just before midnight at a Movietown Drive Apartments. He was released around 3:30 p.m. the following day.

Sheriff’s Department spokesman Heath Hall said that Goldman went to court the next day and was released on a $1,000 bond.

The incident report says that two people reported a disturbance in their area.

“We responded to a call, arrived at the scene, arrested him without incident,” Hall said.

The report says that deputies talked to the victim, Goldman’s former girlfriend of seven years, as she was leaving the residence. She told them that verbal argument became physical after she confronted Goldman about cheating on her.

The victim told deputies that Goldman had put his hands around her throat and strangled her and grabbed her left shoulder and pushed her to the ground. Deputies reported observing red marks on the victim's neck and left shoulder and fresh lacerations on her elbow still wet with blood.

The report says that when deputies initially confronted Goldman that he had scratch marks on the left side of his face. Goldman told them that they were sustained when he had fallen in some bushes earlier that day though later changed his story that they happened during a disagreement with the victim earlier that day when confronted.

Deputies determined that the scratches came from the other woman in a dispute earlier that day after she found some text messages from the victim.

Goldman was not present during a Tuesday press conference with Reeves.
