Jackson Prep hires new soccer coach

Posted

The Jackson Prep soccer program has been known as one of the state’s best over the last 25 years under a legendary head coach in Jon Marcus Duncan, who led the program to 15 boys state titles and 15 girls state titles. Duncan announced that he was leaving the program in March and the new man that will look to continue that legacy will be Kevin Johns.

Johns comes to Jackson Prep after spending the last 19 seasons as the head coach for the men’s soccer program at Mississippi College.

During his time leading the program at Mississippi College, Johns was named Conference Coach of the Year three times and won multiple conference championships. Johns is also the winningest coach in the history of the Mississippi College program.

Even with his vast experience as a college coach, Johns does also have experience working in the high school ranks. Johns served as the head coach for the St. Andrew’s girls soccer program from 1995-1997 and led them to a semifinal appearance during his time at the helm.

He has also spent years as the Director of Coaching for the Jackson Futbol Club, which is one of Mississippi’s premier youth soccer organizations.

Johns will now shift his focus to a new challenge and will look to continue the championship legacy within the girls and boys soccer programs at Jackson Prep.
