MADISON – Madison Central Girls Swim Coach Bridget Carmody said both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams were honored to be recognized by the city Tuesday night for their state championship win last year.

“Mayor Mary always has a million irons in the fire and is constantly looking for ways to improve our wonderful city,” Carmody said. “We are honored she chose to recognize our boys’ and girls’ teams, and she graciously took her time and spoke kind words to each individual athlete. Our towns should be so lucky.”

The girls’ team was recognized for their ninth-consecutive win, while the boys were recognized for their third-consecutive win.

Mayor Mary Hawkins-Butler kicked off the Jan. 17 city board meeting by recognizing the swim teams, and every member of both teams received a certificate.

“It was 2022 when you all took that title, and we’re still celebrating in 2023,” Hawkins-Butler said. “We’re proud of you and the coaches, Coach Carmody and Coach Ware. God bless you all.”

Carmody said out of 33 swimmers on the teams, 26 of them qualified for the state meet.

The girls’ team was recognized first, which included Molly Albritton, Paisley Albritton, Sarah Covington, Abby Jo Flowers, Brooklyn Gallagher, Cassie Howell, Isabelle Jones, Carly Long, Mollee Messer, Isabelle Pike, Parker Reily, Fancier Shi, Ella Thomas, and Charlotte Wilkerson.

The boys’ team included Aiden Allen, Jaden Davillier, Clark Davis, Henry Largen, Sam Reily, Patrick Ross, and Crew Smith. Omar Abdo, M.J. Covington, Hagan Lee, Logan Notebaert, and Aiden Tully were not present at the meeting. The boys' swim coach Eddie Ware presented the certificates.
