Nellie Pearl Griffin passed away in Pleasant Hill, CA at the age of 101. The widow of Morris Griffin of Carthage, MS, she lived most of her life in Jackson, MS. From an early age Pearl loved books and telling stories. She often entertained her nieces and nephews by telling them fairy tales and things her grandmother told her about the Civil War.

Pearl graduated from Mississippi Baptist College in Clinton with both bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education. She enjoyed teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in Jackson, MS from 1959 – 1986.

Pearl was a charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, Training Union and Vacation Bible School. She also taught for five years in the church kindergarten.

Pearl loved the outdoors. Most days you could find her either working with her flowers or in her small vegetable garden. She did not travel much, but she was an avid reader. She said that she visited many interesting places and peoples through the pages of all the books she read. 

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Marcia Griffin Berryman, of Walnut Creek, CA, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation and graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 11 from 9:30 – 10:30 at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
