Northbound lanes of Interstate 55 will be closed
The northbound lanes of Interstate 55 will be closed in 30-minute intervals beginning Thursday as crews work on the new Reunion Parkway bridge, the Mississippi Department of Transportation announced.
The intermittent closures will affect the stretch of I-55 northbound between the Madison and Gluckstadt exits.
“Crews will hang beams for the new Reunion Parkway bridge over I-55 northbound during the closure intervals,” MDOT said in a news release.
The closures are scheduled to occur from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Thursday, June 19, and continuing Friday, June 20. The overnight closures will resume on Monday, June 23, and continue through Wednesday, June 25.
MDOT officials advise drivers to slow down, anticipate stops, and seek alternate routes if necessary. Warning signs will be placed ahead of the work zone to alert motorists.
The work was originally scheduled to begin June 16 but was delayed due to weather, according to MDOT.
