Beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend, Raymond McMullan died peacefully at home from pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 85 on April 6, 2023. 

Raymond was born in Newton County in 1938 and was the youngest of nine children born to Joe and Cora Payne McMullan. He graduated as valedictorian from Stratton High School in 1955, where he enjoyed playing basketball, scoring 57 points in one game. 

After graduating from East Central Junior College, he continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned his BS, MEd, and Specialist degrees. He began his teaching career at Decatur High School in 1959. He then worked at ECCC for 32 years, serving as Academic Counselor before becoming the Registrar. 

He and his wife, Lois Foster McMullan, were married in 1962 and were blessed with three children, Mike, Sherri and Stacey. A dedicated Christian, Raymond was a deacon and taught Sunday school for almost 60 years at Stratton, Clarke Venable, and Broadmoor Baptist churches. He was selected as Star Teacher at Decatur High School, and he was inducted into the USM Alumni Hall of Fame in 1996. 

Preceding him in death were his parents, his eight siblings, and his daughter, Stacey. 

Surviving Raymond is his wife, Lois; Dr. Mike and Missy McMullan, their two children, Courtney and Matthew (Gentry); Randy and Sherri Russell, and their three children, Victoria (Will), Caroline (Ian), and Christopher. He also had two great-grandchildren, Slade and Finley McMullan. 

A memorial service was held at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Monday, April 11, 2023.  Memorials may be made to the Broadmoor Baptist Mission Fund.
