RIDGELAND — Trenton Leahey-Lofton, 16, of Ridgeland, has been identified as the teenager arrested and charged as an adult with murder in the killing of 15-year-old Marcus L. Hemingway on Friday.

Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal said Leahey-Lofton was officially charged as an adult on Monday, Nov. 29.

Hemmingway was shot multiple times in a grassy area adjacent to 125 Pine Knoll Drive at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26.  As a result of the shooting, Hemmingway died at the scene, Neal said.

Ridgeland Police Department investigators were able to identify a suspect shortly after the shooting and took a person, now identified as Leahey-Lofton, into custody. He was later charged with the murder of Hemmingway.

Leahey-Lofton made his initial appearance before a Ridgeland Municipal Court Judge, where he was advised of the charge he faced. Leahey-Lofton is being charged as an adult.  Leahey-Lofton is being held without bond, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21.
