Supes order Yandell Road work designs
Madison County supervisors took a major step towards road improvements to Yandell Road last week by approving engineering contracts on four separate sections.
County Engineer Tim Bryan presented the board with two engineering design contracts with Waggoner Engineering and two contracts with Pickering Firm for the sections.
The first contract is for widening Yandell Road from U.S. Highway 51 to Smith Carr Road. The contract with Waggoner Engineering is not to exceed $1,160,759.77.
The second contract is for widening Yandell Road from Smith Carr Road to North Old Canton Road. The contract with Waggoner Engineering is not to exceed $1,539,367.21.
The third contract is for widening Yandell Road from North Old Canton Road to Bainbridge Crossing. The contract with Pickering Firm is not to exceed $898,531.28.
The final contract is for widening Yandell Road from Bainbridge Crossing to Mississippi 43. The contract with Pickering Firm is not to exceed $1,291,578.50.
In addition to the four contracts on Yandell Road, supervisors also approved an engineering contract with Garver LLC for the widening of Stribling Road from Mississippi Highway 463 to Dewees Road not to exceed $803,000.
District 2 Supervisor Trey Baxter asked for a timeframe on that specific project from design to construction. Bryan said he would need to speak with the engineer first before giving a false date.
Board President Gerald Steen told Bryan that the engineers working on major road projects in the county need to be prepared in January to give supervisors some timelines.
Back in May, supervisors approved borrowing up to $92 million over the next three years to fund a massive transportation plan focusing on capacity projects throughout the county.
Dubbed the Madison County Capacity Improvement Plan, projects include improvements on Stribling Road, Weisenberger Road, Catlett Road, Yandell Road, Reunion Parkway, Calhoun Station Parkway, Bozeman Road, West County Line Road, and Ridgeland’s Wheatley Street.
Work on Stribling Road includes a 5-lane widening from Lake Caroline to Deweese Road and realigning the road. Phase II also includes widening the road from Caroline Boulevard to Highway 463.
Weisenberger will be five-laned from U.S. Highway 51 to Parkway East.
Catlett Road will be three-laned from Red Fox Lane to Stribling Extension, and a traffic signal will be installed at both intersections.
Yandell Road will be three-laned from West Fallen to Madison Crossing and then five-laned from Highway 51 to Highway 43.
Reunion Phase II and Reunion Phase III, known as the Reunion Parkway Project, are currently under construction and will be financed in the package. MDOT will construct ramps for Reunion at I-55 in a widening project between Madison and Gluckstadt.
Bozeman Road Phase I and Bozeman Road Phase II, which have come under heavy scrutiny with board bickering in the early months of the year, would also be funded in the plan.
Calhoun Station Parkway, West County Line Road, and Wheatley Street will also see improvements.
