Veterans Day celebrated here

Special guest speaker and Madison Central alumna Chief Master Sergeant Jessica E. Green addressed the students and faculty at Madison Avenue Elementary’s Veterans Day program.

Student Council officers and representatives at Madison Crossing Elementary created a Field of Honor, raising money for the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home. Veteran’s Day ceremonies were held across the county Monday and last week.

On Friday, county schools held a number of events including special assemblies and a parade at Mannsdale Elementary School.

Madison held their observance ceremony at 10 a.m. at Strawberry Patch Park at 271 St. Augustine Drive at 10 a.m. Rep. Michael Guest was the special guest and speaker.

In Ridgeland, the ceremony was held outside of City Hall in the Veterans Memory Park at 11 a.m. Ridgeland City Hall is located at 100 West School Street.

The Veterans Day Ceremony included keynote remarks by Congressman Gregg Harper as well as remarks and a welcome by Mayor Gene McGee and Colonel John McCollum.

Presentation of Colors will be by the Ridgeland High School AFJROTC Color Guard and the ceremony will feature music by the Ridgeland High School Choir and Joanne Bell.
