Annual fireflies event nears

RIDGELAND — Seeing a sparkling carpet of fireflies in your backyard can be a magical experience. But imagine seeing them all flashing at once – in a symphony of light. Synchronous species of fireflies are very special – and they exist in only a handful of places throughout the world, one of them being the backyard of the Waller Craft Center.

Joe Van Anglin, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 30, at the age of 96. He is survived by sons Van (Tonda), Dent (Pam), and George; daughter, Cheri Anglin; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Epting tapped to lead Madison Avenue

Madison County Schools announced this week Dr. Kristal Pollard Epting will be the next principal of Madison Avenue Elementary School. Dr. Epting is a familiar face in Madison County Schools, having served as assistant principal at Mannsdale Elementary School prior to her current role as lead principal at Flowood Elementary School.

The Madison County Business League & Foundation and the Madison County Community Trust award the students who participated in the 2023-24 Madison County Youth Leadership class with a $500 scholarship.

Fire damages apartments

RIDGELAND — No injuries were reported in an apartment building fire here last week that damaged about eight units.
