Billy D. Johns
Mr. Billy D. Johns, aged 88, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, attended by his sons at St. Dominic Hospital following a recent stroke and a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. The family thanks Arden Hospice for their ministry during his hospitalization.
He was born in Scott County to Homer and Viola (White) Johns, where he spent his youth immersed in the family farm alongside his older siblings. There he cultivated values of hard work and dedication. In the course a full life, he found his wife, Alma Jeffries Johns, and together they made a home in Jackson, filled with love and warmth of raising two boys. Billy dedicated many years at Colonial Baking Company, until his retirement. Later, transitioning to work alongside his brother, Roy Johns, at the City of Pearl Parks, and lastly as a subcontractor for MS Valley Gas with brother-in-law, Ken Mabry. Throughout his journey, he remained steadfast in his faith, finding Christian growth and fellowship as a member of Briarwood Baptist Church; previously worshiping at Broadmoor and Ridgecrest Baptist Churches prior to their relocation. Billy was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace in the tranquility of hunting and fishing.
Mr. Johns is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Roy & Fred), sisters (Louise & Geneva), and his beloved wife (2016) of nearly six decades. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and resilience, survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Johns (Terri) of Greenwood, and Jason Johns of Brandon; three grandchildren, Danielle Martin (Byron); Hunter, and Britton Alma Johns, as well as two beautiful great-grandchildren, Isaac and Henry Martin.
In honor of Billy's memory, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
A family service will be held to celebrate Billy's life and legacy at a later date, he will be interred in a private ceremony.
