Canton carjacking ends in Madison shootout
Two Canton men have been arrested and charged in connection with a chase that started in Gluckstadt last week and ended in a four-hour manhunt, the authorities said.
Javontea Devario Warren, 26, of Canton was arrested and charged with felony fleeing, receiving stolen property and accessory after the fact.
Anteious Andrious Edwards, Jr., 17, of Canton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and receiving stolen property.
A 15-year-old was also initially detained in connection with the incident but was not charged, according to Gluckstadt Assistant Chief Barry Hale.
Hale said Warren has been issued a bond in the amount of $350,000 and Edwards was denied bond and will be charged as an adult.
On Thursday, March 9, around 11:30 p.m. officers with the Gluckstadt Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle at Interstate 55 and Gluckstadt Road, Hale said.
“The 2003 black Honda Civic fled from officers at this time traveling southbound on Interstate 55 eventually exiting onto the 463 exit in Madison,” Hale said.
The suspect vehicle then turned onto Galleria Parkway at which time the passenger began firing shots at officers forcing Gluckstadt Police officers to exchange fire with the suspects. The suspect vehicle then ran off the roadway into a wooded area just north of Garden Park, he said.
The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area.
Upon further investigation, it was determined the stolen Civic was taken in an armed carjacking in Canton on March 4.
With the assistance of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, three suspects were detained in the area of Industrial Drive South and transported to the SO after giving false Information roughly four hours after the vehicle wrecked. Hale said the three suspects were discovered on the side of the road and were “muddy from head to toe after hiding from us.”
There were no injuries reported connected to this incident.
