GLUCKSTADT — No charges are expected after a man accidentally shot himself in the leg at a convenience store here Sunday night.

“An investigation was conducted and at this time it has been determined the shooting was self-inflicted and has been ruled an accidental shooting,” said Gluckstadt Police Chief Barry Hale.

The incident occurred on April 21, at 9:30 p.m., when the Gluckstadt Police Department received a call at the Fleetway Market, 1227 Gluckstadt Road, regarding a subject being shot in the leg.

Officers arrived on the scene and noticed the subject had lost a lot of blood, authorities said. Sgt. David Potvin immediately went into "life-saving mode" and administered a tourniquet on the man’s leg.

“I am really proud of our guys,” Hale said.”When they got on the scene this man had lost a lot of blood. Sgt. Potvin probably saved this man’s life.”

Paramedics and the Gluckstadt Fire Department arrived on the scene a short time later and the man was taken to a hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery, Hale said.

Hale said the investigation, which includes security footage from the scene has ruled the incident as an accidental discharge.

“We do not foresee any charges connected to this incident moving forward,” Hale said.
