Out-of-state check forgery ring busted by Madison PD
MADISON — Five people were arrested last week in a conspiracy involving fraudulent check writing here.
All five individuals were taken into custody for a conspiracy related to Uttering Forgery, according to MPD Major Robert Sanders.
Arrested were the following:
• Shavon Renard Robinson, 34, of Atlanta, Ga.
• Clifton Curtis Spann, 28, of Valdosta, Ga.
•Marshun Donta Jackson, 44, of Atlanta, Ga.
• Deandre Lucas Love, 41, of Vero Beach, Fla.
• Kevis Lewis Buice, 28, of Atlanta.
After their initial appearance in the Madison Municipal Court, Judge Jim Streetman set their bonds at $1 million dollars each. According to Madison County Detention Center records all five remain in custody.
“The Madison Police Department is continuing its investigation, with the possibility of more arrests,” Sander said.
On Oct. 17, at 3:22 p.m., the Madison Police Department received a call about an individual attempting to pass fraudulent checks at Community Bank, 998 Hwy 51 in Madison, Sanders said.
Officers responded to the call and located a Ridgeland man who was attempting to pass fraudulent checks.
Madison Police Capt. Kevin Newman said the Ridgeland man was not arrested because investigators believe he may have a diminished mental capacity.
“There is the possibility of additional charges against the other suspects related to taking advantage of a vulnerable adult,” Newman said
Further investigation led to identifying other individuals involved in the conspiracy, Sanders said.
With the assistance of the Richland Police Department, investigators located a suspect vehicle at the Roadway Inn off Highway 49 in Rankin County, according to Sanders. They detained three occupants in the vehicle and found two more individuals in a motel room, all of whom were part of the ongoing investigation.
A search warrant yielded evidence, including two word processors, blank check forms, forged prescriptions, and several other checks that the individuals had attempted to destroy upon the officers' arrival.
