Local leaders will hold an event here Saturday to highlight the Falcon Zone schools and their many accomplishments, organizers say.

Dr. Pollia Griffin, an organizer for the event, said this year’s theme will be Hidden Gems of Madison County.

“I hope this year will be as big as it has been in the past,” Griffin said. “This year it is centered on the many accomplishments of our Falcon Zone schools.”

The event is put on by the Northeast Madison County Economic Development Council. They are holding their third annual Spring Festival at the Northeast Madison County County Community Park at 929 Sulphur Springs Road, in Canton on Saturday, April 13, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free and so is parking.

“We want to highlight and shout out our teachers, coaches and students,” Griffin said.

Griffin said each school has selected a program to highlight. A few examples include the Shirley Simmons Middle School football team, the Luther Branson Elementary School robotics team and the Velma Jackson Arts program.

In addition to a performance by the Falcon Band and a demonstration from the robotics team, activities will include games, food, dancing, vocal performances, a fishing contest, face painting and more.

Griffin said they are expecting good weather for the event.

“It is supposed to be pretty on Friday and hopefully that will dry some of this rain up,” Griffin said.
