One-stop shop to open next month

GLUCKSTADT — The Local Mixer hopes to be a place that moms will want to shop but just as importantly a place their kids will want to visit as well.

Owners Haley McCarra and Caitlin Smith hope to have their “one-stop shop” open in April.

McCarra said they will offer a variety of sweets including cookies baked in-house and a rotating menu as well as several shelves, counters, and booths that will feature goods from a variety of vendors including local authors and entrepreneurs, and offers items such as fresh cut flowers, clothing and art.

“We love the idea of being able to offer a variety of products under one roof,” McCarra said. “We want to be a one-stop shop for the community of Gluckstadt. We will have fun treats and movies playing for the kiddos while Mom shops.”

Their 2,500-square-foot store is located at 346 Church Road.

According to McCarra, Smith has always wanted to be a full-time baker and she wanted to provide a platform for small businesses to thrive.

While the rotating sweets menu is intended to cause a sense of buzz and excitement, McCarra said Smith is also planning an offering of staples. Specifically, they expect to be known for their Hayzie Roos which is simply “ice cream sandwiched between two homemade cookies.”

The name, Hayzie Roo, comes from a combination of their three daughters' names. Hayes McCarra and Hazel Smith are combined for “Hayzie” and Reece McCarra’s nickname “Roo” is incorporated at the end.
