James Harold “Jim” Butler, 74, went to be with our Lord at his residence in the City of Madison.

A believer and follower of Jesus Christ as his Savior, Jim was a member of First Baptist Church Madison. As a graduate of Madison-Ridgeland High School and Mississippi State University, Jim was active in the Boy Scouts of America, various church youth activities, and school athletics.

He served his country in both the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Army Reserves. Jim’s professional career began as a representative with the Mississippi Farm Bureau and he later served as a lobbyist for the Mississippi Power Association. Jim was known for being one of the “best homebuilders” throughout the metro area. He also served as Madison County Election Commissioner for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hawkins Butler. He leaves behind his sons James Bradley Butler of Livingston, Texas and Joseph “Joe” Richard Butler (Gretchen) of Madison, his grandchildren Isabel, Knox and Layla, and his siblings Pat Truesdale of Ridgeland and brother Eddie Butler (Jill) of Ethel Mississippi.

Memorial donations may be made to your church’s children’s ministry. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Madison on August 29, 2023.

The family held a private graveside gathering following the service.
